Professional Services Responders (PSRs)

Professional
Services Responders (PSRs) are professional men and
women who volunteer their leadership and skills. The PSR
Program supplements traditional Reserve programs with
non-sworn volunteers. PSRs provide administrative and
leadership support in the areas of emerging
technologies, communications, industrial relations,
graphic arts, healthcare, dignitary protection, firearm
safety instruction, legal and accounting services,
international protocol, governmental relations, and
emergency response resources.
Mission Statement
The mission of the
Professional Services Responder for the Orange
County Sheriff's Department is to assist, augment, and
enhance the services provided by the department to the
citizens of the County of Orange. "Responders" shall be
a readily deployable resource, donated to the
Department. Responders shall work side-by-side with
civilian and sworn personnel to meet the goals of the
Division in which they serve, and thereby meet the
overall goals of the Department.
Joining the PSR Team
Applying to become a PSR includes filling in a personal
history statement, which may be downloaded as an MS Word
form from
Professional Services Responder Instructions and
Personal History Form (03-2010). You will
complete a written examination
and have an in-depth background interview with the
investigator. You will need to bring your
completed background packet, which was given to
you at the written examination, to this
appointment. The Sheriff's Department will
conduct a thorough investigation of your
background. You will be requested to authorize
organizations and individuals that know you to
release
and verify
relevant information about you. The background
investigator will contact prior employers,
relatives, and references. Information provided
during these contacts may result in other
individuals being contacted. The investigator
will check into your employment history, credit
status, driving record, and other pertinent
information. A criminal history check will also
be made. During this appointment, you will be
fingerprinted.
